What “works offline” actually means

Plenty of POS software claims it. Usually it means a cached page that lets you look at yesterday’s menu while the till refuses to take money. Here is exactly what InFastPOS does instead.

Every action, and what it needs
Take an orderNothing. Local only.
Print a receiptNothing. Local printer.
Send a kitchen ticketNothing. Local screen or printer.
Deduct stock for a saleNothing. Local database.
Run any reportNothing. Local database.
Take a backupNothing, unless you send it to the cloud.
Activate the licenceOnce, at setup.
Upload orders to the cloudWhen a connection exists. Queued otherwise.
Download an updateWhen you ask for one.
A real database, on your counter

SQLite, in a single file under your Windows profile, in write-ahead-log mode with synchronous writes. A sale is on disk before the receipt finishes printing — a power cut takes the order that was being typed, and nothing else.

Sync retries, it does not block

Completed orders join an upload queue. If the server is unreachable the queue waits and retries with a growing delay; nothing is dropped and nothing is uploaded twice, because each order carries an identifier the server recognises.

The licence is checked locally

Activation fetches a signed licence file once. After that the app verifies that signature against a key built into the software — so a shop with no internet for a month keeps trading normally.

The honest part

What offline-first costs you

Every architecture trades something. These are the trades this one makes, stated plainly, because you will find them out anyway.

Backups are your responsibility

The data is on your machine, so a dead hard drive is a real risk. InFastPOS backs up automatically every few hours and keeps the last fourteen, and can push a copy to the cloud — but a shop that never checks its backups has none, and no software can fix that for you.

Multi-branch stock is not instant

Each branch owns its own database. Figures reach head office when that branch syncs, not the moment a sale happens. For a chain that needs live central stock across sites, a cloud-only system is genuinely the better fit.

You cannot open it from a phone in another city

The application runs on the shop’s computer. Owners who want to watch takings from anywhere use cloud sync and the web console for reporting — the till itself stays where the till is.

See it yourself

Unplug the network and keep selling

Install the trial, load the sample shop, then disconnect the machine from the internet entirely. Take orders, print receipts, run reports. That is the whole demonstration.

Download the trial

Try it in your own shop

15 days, the whole product, no card

Install it on the counter, load the sample shop to see every screen with realistic figures, then clear it and enter your own menu. If it does not suit your shop, you have lost an afternoon and nothing else.
