The grill should not have to read past four drinks
A paper ticket lists everything on the order. A kitchen with three stations then has three people reading the same slip and finding their own lines on it. That is where the minutes go.
Every product belongs to a station. One order becomes one ticket per station, each showing only its own items — the fryer sees fries and broast, the grill sees burgers, the counter sees drinks.
Minutes are counted from when the customer paid, not from when somebody remembered to press start. That is the number a customer is experiencing, so it is the one worth showing.
Accept, start, ready. Three states, large targets, and no fine motor control needed from someone with oil on their hands.
The kitchen report gives average and worst preparation time per station and per hour. It is how you find out that Fridays after eight are not busy — they are understaffed at the fryer.
Screen, paper, or both
A kitchen that has always used paper does not switch overnight, and it does not have to.
| Second monitor | The display runs from the same computer as the till — cheapest, and enough for most single-kitchen shops |
|---|---|
| Separate machine | A dedicated screen in the kitchen, useful when the till is far from the pass |
| Thermal printers | A printer per station, each receiving only its own items |
| Both together | Print and display at once while the kitchen gets used to the screen |
| If the screen fails | Orders are on the till and on the printer. Nothing is lost with the display down. |
Questions about the kitchen display
How many stations can I have?
As many as your kitchen has. Each product is assigned to one, and stations can be added or renamed at any time without touching the products individually.
What happens to a ticket if an order is cancelled?
It is marked cancelled on the display immediately, so the kitchen stops work on it. Cancellations require a reason, which then appears on the sales report.
Does the display need its own internet connection?
No. It reads from the same local database as the till. If the display runs on a second machine it needs the local network, but never the internet.
15 days, the whole product, no card
Install it on the counter, load the sample shop to see every screen with realistic figures, then clear it and enter your own menu. If it does not suit your shop, you have lost an afternoon and nothing else.
